11 ways hiring a copywriter saves you time (and money)

Running a business is time-consuming. And it’s easy to go months or years without updating your content (I know how you feel, I’m writing this post in a spare few minutes between projects).

So, if you have to drop what you’re doing to work on your business copy, here’s something that’s going to make you smile:

Hiring a copywriter saves you time.

Oh, and they’ll save you money too.

How hiring a copywriter saves you time (and money).

Investing in a freelance copywriter to write for you might feel like a needless expense, especially during a cost-of-living crisis. But if you haven’t updated your website in yonks and your marketing is a bit stagnant, a freelancer can help you reach people who want to throw their cash at you.

With that in mind, here are ten ways hiring a copywriter saves you time:

One. Website and landing page copy

When clients who already have a website contact me, 90% of them say one of two things:

  1. “My website was written years ago and is really dated now.”
  2. “I’ve tried writing my own copy, but I just can’t get across what I do.”

Both of these are a disaster for your business.

The first is giving potential clients information about stuff you probably don’t do anymore. And the second is confusing the hell out of them.

Either way, you’re missing out on paying customers.

A copywriter will write website and landing pages that make it dead easy for your customers to understand what you’re offering. And we’ll cut out needless filler and jargon to make it sharp and concise.

Two. Blog posts

Blogging takes time, especially if you want to bang one out weekly. But you don’t have to do that at first, one a month should do.

And even then, a busy business owner will find it hard to fit it in.

But here’s the thing, regular blogging:

  • Tells search engines your website is active
  • Drives traffic to your website
  • Boosts your SEO ranking
  • Builds trust in your business
  • Makes it easier for customers to find your business
  • Shows you know what you’re talking about
  • Gives customers useful insights and tips
  • Allows you to repurpose content across multiple social media and marketing platforms

Blog posts take time and research – and that’s time you might not have.

In that case, outsourcing your blog posts might be a good idea.

Three. Emails & Newsletters

Whether you’re sending cold pitches or newsletters to your subscribers, they need to be:

  • Catchy
  • Informative
  • Useful

And just as importantly:

  • Regular

Emails and newsletters are one of the first things to go by the wayside when you’re snowed under.

Disappear from inboxes for too long or rush a message littered with errors or weak information, and you’ll find your cold pitches will go unanswered, and your newsletter sign-ups will start hitting unsubscribe.

Four. Social Media

Social media is one of the best ways to reach your target audience in seconds, but it takes time and effort.

A copywriter can write, schedule and post for you across your entire social media platform.

why are copywriters so expensive, hiring a copywriter saves you time

And as a bonus, the writer can also repurpose the articles they’ve written you to make them work on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter, etc.

Five. Case Studies

Testimonials are all well and good, but case studies prove that your product or service has changed someone’s life for the better. They’re a little story about how you fixed a problem for your customer with a happy, positive outcome.

They’re like testimonials on acid.

Copywriters write case studies all the time, so if you’re unsure where to start, ask your writer. Or check out my article, How case studies build trust in your business.

Six. White Papers

A white paper is an in-depth report on an issue and the outcome you can provide. They’re like Case Studies jacked up on steroids. And, shite a light, they are huge and extremely time-consuming.

You’ll never get any of your work done if you attempt them yourself.

Well, you might, but you’ll work about eighteen hours a day for about six months.

Seven. Press Releases

Do you have big news to announce but haven’t a spare minute to talk about it?

Hiring a copywriter saves you time there too.

We know how to capture the attention of editors of newspapers and magazines to get your announcement or business featured.

Eight. Product Descriptions

Adding new products to your line is exciting, but it’s also a ballache having to write the content for your website and anywhere else you might sell stuff (like Amazon, Etsy, etc.).

Freelance copywriters love writing about cool, interesting products – and they can bang them out to suit the different platforms you’re selling them on.

Nine. Physical print copy

Not everything is digital, and businesses still need content for stuff like:

  • Brochures
  • Flyers
  • Pamphlets
  • Guides

These are not quick jobs, so they need time and a keen eye to ensure they’re written well.

A typo in an article is easy to fix, but when it’s in a physical leaflet telling people to come to your leisure centre to ‘Enjoy a dip in the poo‘, that’s a print run of 1000 leaflets that need to go in the bin.

And that’s just nine things that justify the boast that hiring a copywriter saves you time, you’d be reading all day if I went on about slogans, UX copy and a million other things they can write for you.

How a freelance copywriter saves you money.

No doubt about it, hiring a copywriter saves you time, but what about money:

One. They’re cheaper than hiring in-house

Getting an in-house copywriter might seem like the best idea, but paying a salary to a full-time employee means you’ve got to make sure you’re getting value from what you’re paying them.

Hiring a freelance copywriter is much cheaper because you:

  • Only pay them for the work they do
  • Use them as much or as little as you like

And unless you’ve got a bottomless pit of funds, it’s unlikely they’ll cost you more in twelve months than an in-house writer will.

Besides that, it’s easier and faster to get a freelancer on board.

All you need to do is:

  • Google a copywriter with expertise in your industry or browse ProCopywriters
  • Check out their portfolio of work
  • Contact them to set up a call
  • Sign them up to write for you

And this can be done in hours instead of the days and weeks it takes to schedule interviews in person before shelling out on a salary that ties you into constantly having to find them work.

Two. They offer copy-auditing services

Most freelance copywriters offer auditing services, which means they’ll review your current written content and give you ideas on how to change it.

Why is this great?

Because these services usually (I can’t vouch for every writer) cost a little less than having pages written from scratch, you get all their knowledge at a reduced rate.

Great if you’re on a budget.

Save yourself time and money.

If you’ve been swayed by all the benefits of hiring a copywriter listed above, get on Google now and start searching for something like ‘small business copywriter‘.

Or pop along to ProCopywriters.
