How I manifested my dream client, Beano

Days don’t get much better than the time I manifested my dream client, Beano.

As a kid, I was Beano daft.

I had every:

  • Comic
  • Annual
  • Summer Special
  • Special Edition

And every piece of memorabilia going.

I was in the Dennis the Menace Fan Club.

And when they released ice lollies with Dennis and Gnasher on the wrapper, I kept them, too.

It’s safe to say that even though I’m now in my 40s, Beano still holds a special place in my heart. That’s why working for them in 2023 was a dream I never thought possible — but it did, and I’m going to tell you how.

manifested my dream client

Look, I get how manifesting sounds. And I don’t blame you if you think it’s nonsense. But, before you read any further, if you want a really in-depth seven-step explanation of what’s involved with manifesting and why it’s more about mindset than magic, check out my article, 7 great ways to manifest your ideal client, then come back.

Back?

Good.

Here’s the tale of how I used the law of attraction and manifested my dream client:

Part One: The Beginning

The road to working with Beano in June 2023 started way back in January 2022 when I bought a vision board and filled it with loads of stuff I want to achieve in the future, among other things it consisted of:

  • Do more work I enjoy
  • Earn £XXk per year (the figure will remain a secret, haha)
  • Get out in nature more
  • Move to France

And, yes:

  • Work for Beano

Then, I did nothing.

I just let them sit on the vision board and didn’t put much effort into making most of them a reality.

Until I had a mental health crisis (which you can read about in Poor Mental Health, Freelancing & Me), which, for all the crap it threw my way, made me determined to start turning these dreams into a reality.

Part Two: The Middle

The upside of my poor mental health is that I started to meditate a lot more. While browsing the meditation app Insight Timer, I came across the audio Client Attraction Meditation by Chenae Carey:

It wasn’t all mystical and strange, all she asked you to do was:

  • Visualise your dream client
  • Picture their reaction when you return a great piece of work (and write it down)
  • Imagine a light emanating from you (this is as quirky as it gets)
  • Think about an empty room and fill it with all the good feelings they give back to you
  • Open the door to the room and let your ideal clients in

The light is probably the only ‘weird’ thing if you’re sceptical, but it’s not that weird or mystical..

I found it a nice thing to do, so I spent weeks visualising the Beano logo, comic, characters, the people and working for the brand in whatever form that took

Inspired by this, I then decided to talk about it on LinkedIn:

beano, manifested my dream client

I kept my post light, fun, stuck in a joke and styled the attached images with comic sounds – just like Beano.

I’d put it out there, it was out in the Universe.

That was the end of that.

Only it wasn’t.

A few hours later, this happened:

Whaaaaaaaaaat?

Part Three: The End?

Three days later, I was on a call with the Beano Editor and their Head of Marketing.

It. Was. Bizarre.

They were astounded that I already knew everything they were telling me about the current Beano and the changes it had undergone. Then they told me they’d been thinking about posting a three-part LinkedIn series to celebrate their 85th Anniversary aimed at adults called Being a Kid Never Gets Old.

And instead of asking their writers to work on it, after seeing my post, I was the only one they wanted to write it.

What’s more, they said something so heart-warming it made me grin: ”

Matt, you totally get it. You completely understand our tone of voice. You are one of us!

Wowza’s in me trousers, that blew my socks off.

Hopefully, it won’t be the only thing I write for them, but it doesn’t matter if it is.

I manifested my dream client, and that feels pretty damn amazing.

Work that was a dream come true

They say you should never meet your heroes, but my experience working with Beano was unbelievable. Every person I’ve spoken to or connected with has been so nice, generous and kind.

Check out the Beano project on my Portfolio page to see the work.

Those clients are worth their weight in gold, and when it comes to dreams, mine really did come true, and it gave me the confidence to market myself more as a funny copywriter or a conversational copywriter rather than just a writer in Liverpool

Also, if you’re a children’s brand, read a little more about my skills as a toy brand copywriter – to be honest, it’s not just toys, I’ll write about anything fun, witty or wacky aimed at children.

Until next time,

Matt
