5 social media strategies for toy brands

If there’s one thing toy brands have going for them, it’s that you deal with inherently fun products.

I mean, who doesn’t love a good toy?

But the challenge is turning that fun into a social media frenzy that gets your products flying off the shelves and into kids’ (and parents’) hands (and hearts).

If you’re stuck for ideas, I’ve created five social media strategies for toy brands that’ll have your audience double-tapping, sharing, and, most importantly, buying your toys faster than you can say “playtime.”

Give these five social media strategies for toy brands a go

It doesn’t matter if you’re a start-up or a seasoned toy company, you’ll find some useful stuff below:

One. Make the most of User-Generated Content (UGC)

Let the people do the talking.

Or, I should say, let them post and big up your brand for you.

User-generated content is gold for toy brands. There’s nothing more powerful than a real kid (or parent) showing people how awesome your toy is.

Parents trust other parents, and kids want what other kids have if it looks fun.

Encourage your audience to share photos or videos of their little ones playing with your toys using a branded hashtag.

You could also give away a prize for the best video or most creative use of your product.

It’s real and way more compelling than a stock photo.

Two. Collaborate with kid Influencers and family bloggers

Ugh, influencers!

You might want t to run a mile when you hear that word, but stay with me.

Kid influencers and family bloggers have a BIG influence on customers when it comes to toys. They have millions of followers who look to them for the best toy recommendations.

So why not ask some to try your product?

What’s the worst that can happen, they say no?

Or, maybe they’ll say YES!

And if they love it, well, it’s likely to land you a load of sales.

Three. Create playful, interactive content

Social media isn’t just for showing off your products—it’s for engaging with your audience.

So, like your toys, make your socials interactive.

Launch a TikTok challenge where kids showcase creative ways to play with your toys. Or create a poll where parents vote on their kids’ favorite features of your newest toy.

Keep it fun. Keep it light. Keep it playful.

Just get people involved.

Four. Show people what happens behind-the-scenes

Parents want to know that toys are well-made and safe. So, show them what goes into designing your products.

You can:

  • Share videos of your creative team working on new designs
  • Take your followers on a virtual tour of your factory
  • Introduce the team behind the toys

You could even let your audience vote on design features for an upcoming release—how cool would that be?

Behind-the-scenes content builds trust and makes your toy brand feel more real to your audience.

Plus, it’s another way to create unique and engaging content.

Five. Use social media ads to target more buyers

Don’t just rely on organic reach and social media posts to find buyers; think about investing in a proper ad strategy.

Use Google, Facebook and Meta ads to target the people most likely to buy your toys—parents, grandparents and anyone else needing an easy birthday or Christmas gift idea.

Schedule your ads to ramp up around major gifting times, like Christmas, Easter, Halloween or back-to-school.

The more eyeballs on your products at the right time, the better.
